Research and Development
Alpina, d.o.o., is a development-oriented company for the manufacture and sale of footwear. The primary vehicle for realizing this explicit focus on research and development is the Alpina Research & Development Group.
The current projects of the R&D Group include Alpina’s “Nordic Ball of the Foot System,” or NBS, a new system for fastening cross-country ski boots to the skis. The advantage of the new binding lies in the way we have moved the hinge from the end of the sole to the ball of the foot, where propulsion force is strongest. Another important project is our “New Alpine Norm,” or NAN system, which sets a new standard for downhill ski bindings. The basic idea of the system is that the boot is no longer fastened to the ski at the front and back but rather at the front and beneath the foot; this means there is no need to readjust the binding for different-sized ski boots.
Our R&D Group also devotes a great deal of attention to a number of other projects relating to the various kinds of footwear that are, or will be, produced at Alpina.
