Alpina's designers receive the 'red dot' award for the second time 02/07/2009 Alpina's designers receive the 'red dot' award for the second time
For the second year in a row Alpina has been honoured by an international panel of judges who awarded Alpina and the Jure Miklavc Design Studio the prestigious 'red dot' award for the design of their innovative Binom footwear.
Alpina is a recognised Slovenian company manufacturing and marketing footwear. For its creative and technologically innovative footwear, it has received the 'red dot' award for the second year in a row.
Last year, it received the award for cross-country racing skates and classic boots; this year, the honour went their to Binom casual footwear, which is the result of the work and development of technologists at Alpina and designer Jure Miklavc. Binom was selected from among 3,231 entries submitted by 1,400 companies from 49 countries. On being presented the award, the CEO of Alpina said: "The second design award in a row, this time for innovative casual footwear. Binom proves that Alpina has taken a huge step forward not only in terms of sports footwear, but also in terms of fashion. The award is also a kind of continuation of our new collection of fashion footwear called GTH-got-to-have, which we launched this month." Jure Miklavc commented: "The brand and footwear Binom is the result of two years of intensive development and design, which included designing a foot scanner, innovative products and the whole collection, and creating a new brand, visual identity and advertising campaign. All the designers at Studio Jure Miklavc worked closely with the experts from Alpina - in addition to myself, Jože Carli and Jaka Verbič (industrial design), and Barbara Šušteršič (visual communications). A second successive award means we can compete with the best, and strengthens our excellent partnership with Alpina"
The idea to design Binom shoes was based on the fact that Alpina strive to manufacture high-quality footwear that fits perfectly. One of the key features of Binom shoes is that they fit different shapes, as they are available in four different volumes in one size, and have a special insole which enables adjustments according to the height of the arch, and different volume adjustments for the left and right foot. In this respect, Binom is unique, and is the result of several years of studying the varying shapes of human feet and extensive measurements. Findings have shown that the comfort of a shoe largely depends on how the shoe fits the area between the toes and the arch, an area called the metatarsus, which defines the width of the foot and the height of the arch. Before buying a pair of shoes, the customer's feet are first scanned with a laser, enabling them to purchase shoes which fit perfectly and provide perfect comfort. Binom casual footwear is available in several models for men and women, and interesting colour combinations. The footwear is innovative, practical, high-quality, ergonomic and durable. It also embodies Alpina's vision, which has put the company among the best in the world in the development, design and manufacture of footwear.
