Alpina and Studio Jure Miklavc Recipients of Two Prestigious Design Awards: The Good Design Award 2009
Public announcement/for immediate publication
The Good Design Award is the oldest and at the same time of the most important design awards, which was established in 1950 by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann.
The American Design Award is awarded by the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design: The Chicago Athenaeum together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The awards are given for the best products in the area of industrial and graphic design. The international panel of experts had especially searched for and awarded innovatively, creatively, ecologically and technologically developed products, which contain human, universal and responsible design. The award recipients included the best world class producers and design studios.
Alpina in Studio Jure Miklavc are the recipients of two awards; one for the cross country ski boots Alpina Racing Elite CL/CS and the Binom shoes.

Alpina’s boots for classical and (ECL) and skating technique (ECS) for cross country skiing are produced for top level competitors in cross country skiing and biathlon and for all those cross country skiers who strive for perfection and who are satisfied only with the best. It is distinguished by minimalist design, recognition, water impermeability and an exceptional fit for the foot. The inner boot is distinguished by a new tying system, quality materials and insertion design based on the competitor’s foot measurements. Perfected and uncompromised shoes ensure exceptional stability and a good transfer of power from the feet to the ski with the smallest amount of energy loss possible. In addition to Jure Miklavc, Robert Križnar (Alpina) also co-operated in the design. The product graphic was planned in Kabinet 01. See www.alpina.si for more information.

Binom footwear is the product of many years of experience, research and the measurement of human feet, which greatly differ from one another. Based on these measurements, Alpina has developed new technology for measuring feet and Studio Jure Miklavc has designed the products, designed a new brand name and has provided market communication. Binom footwear is designed to adapt to the feet, which is why it ensures maximum comfort. This formative and technologically perfected footwear is intended for all those who value comfort as well as keeping in mind ecology when selecting footwear. By selecting natural and recycled materials, reducing the burden on the environment has been provided. The designers at Studio Jure Miklavc had co-operated closely on the project with experts from Alpina and the project manager Igor Zupan. Jure Miklavc, Jaka Verbič, Jože Carli (industrial design) and Barbara Šušteršič (brand name and public relations). See www.binom-shoes.com for more information.
Alpina and Studio Jure Miklavc had received to prestigious Red Dot Award in 2008 and 2009 for both products. The products that were awarded will be exhibited at the Good Design show in The Chicago Athenaeum in June 2010. See www.chi-athenaeum.org for more information.
