About Alpina, d.o.o.

The shoemaking tradition in Žiri reaches back well into the previous century. In 1947, a number of private shoemaking workshops joined together to form the Alpina Company.

Today, Alpina operates as a joint stock company. Each year 783 employees produce aproximately 1.7 million pairs of shoes and boots. The greater part of what we produce, over 65 percent, is sold abroad under our own brand name.

Our fashion lines, in both women's and men's footwear, account for two-thirds of our entire production. Alpina designers and technologists keep close tabs on the latest trends in international fashion and, based on many years of experience, are able to create fashionable and comfortable footwear of the finest quality. We produce three basic lines of cemented and injection-molded footwear: classic, fashion, and casual lines. Besides selling fashion footwear in our own Alpina retail stores, we also export our fashion line to France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and Great Britain, among others.

The remaining third of our production is taken up by our athletic footwear. Both current and future efforts are devoted to three programs under the Alpina brand name: downhill ski boots, cross-country boots, and hiking boots. In order to meet the needs of our customers, the designers and developers of our sports lines strive to offer an original, well-designed, useful, and competitively priced product along with all the attendant customer services.

Alpina is the leading producer of cross-country boots, with a 30 percent world market share. We are providers for several cross-country and biathlon national teams (Slovenia, Norway, Sweden, Italy, and Canada). In the field of competitive and recreational cross-country boots, Alpina scientists have improved existing models and developed new ones in accordance with the latest trends in fashion and technology. We export our cross-country boots to several major countries, including Norway, the USA, Italy, Canada, Japan, Sweden, and Germany.

At Alpina, more than half a century of experience is coupled with the very latest developments in technology. New skiing techniques demand precise support from ski equipment. The numerous good results achieved by top athletes using Alpina's downhill ski boots have proved the boots' effectiveness and quality. Alpina sells approximately 2 percent of the world's downhill ski boots. Most of our downhill boots are exported to countries where skiing is extremely popular, including the USA, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Poland.

Many of those who appreciate the fine quality of Alpina products are already familiar with our wide assortment of hiking boots. These connoisseurs include the Slovenian Army, for which Alpina is a supplier. Among our hiking boots, you can find boots designed for more difficult and demanding mountain climbing, as well as casual footwear. Alpina hiking boots will help you discover the beauty and power of nature, whether you're conquering a mountain or just rambling through the countryside. Our boots are made of the finest natural materials and will serve you faithfully, even if you decide to go off trail. Our casual models are lightweight, reliable, and comfortable.

In addition to exporting our products to markets abroad, Alpina has devoted a great deal of attention to expanding our own network of retail stores. The beginnings of the retail network go back to the early 1960s, when Alpina opened its first store in Sarajevo. Today we have retail stores in Slovenia (55), Croatia (33), Bosnia-Herzegovina (11), Yugoslavia (11), Hungary (2), Romania (1) and Bulgaria (1). In order to broaden our selection and better serve the needs of our retail customers, Alpina purchases footwear from other manufacturers, as well. In recent years, we have devoted much attention on renovating our stores, to give them a more contemporary look that is both better suited to our merchandise and more pleasing for our customers. With their unified and more customer-friendly image and wider selection, our stores are today in a better position to satisfy the desires of Alpina's loyal customers.
